The Main Different Between dtf printing, uv printing and uv dtf printing

⭐ 1. DTF Printing (Direct to Film)
🔹 What it is
• Prints designs onto a special PET film using dtf ink.
• The printed film is coated with hot melt powder and heat pressed onto fabric.
🔹 Supporting machines needed
1. dtf printer
• Modified Epson L1800, XP600, i3200, or dedicated DTF printers.
2. dtf powder shaker / Curing oven
• For melting adhesive powder onto the print film.
• For transferring the print from film to fabric.
🔹 Printing consumables
• DTF Inks (CMYK + White)
• PET Film sheets or rolls
🔹 Printing process
1. Print design (CMYK then White) onto PET film.
2. Apply hot melt powder evenly.
3. Cure the powder using oven or heat press.
4. Place film onto fabric and press at ~150-160°C for 10-15 sec.
5. Peel film (cold or hot peel depending on material).
⭐ 2. UV Printing (Direct UV Printing)
🔹 What it is
• Uses UV ink cured instantly with UV light.
• Directly prints onto rigid or flexible substrates (e.g. acrylic, wood, PVC board, glass, metal).
🔹 Supporting machines needed
• Equipped with UV LED curing lamps.
• Printhead types vary (Ricoh, epson i3200-U1, Kyocera).
🔹 Printing consumables
• UV Inks (CMYK + White + Varnish if desired)
• Substrates
• Acrylic sheets, PVC foam board, leather, wood, glass, aluminium, phone cases, etc.
🔹 Printing process
1. Load the substrate onto the printer bed.
2. Print design directly; ink is cured instantly by UV lamp.
3. Remove the printed product – ready to use immediately.
⭐ 3. uv dtf Printing (UV Direct to Film)
🔹 What it is
• Prints UV ink designs onto a special adhesive film to create stickers that can transfer onto uneven or difficult surfaces (glass, metal, wood, plastic, leather).
🔹 Supporting machines needed
• Similar to UV flatbed printer but with roll-to-roll system and laminate applicator built-in for A/B film process.
🔹 Printing consumables
• UV Inks (CMYK + White + Varnish if required)
• UV DTF A Film + B Film
• A Film: For printing the design.
• B Film: Laminating film with adhesive.
🔹 Printing process
1. Print design on A film (CMYK, White, Varnish layers).
2. Laminate with B film (adhesive transfer film).
3. Cut sticker to size.
4. Peel off and apply on target surface like a sticker decal. No heat press needed.
Summary Table
Type | Target Material | Machine Needed | Consumables | Transfer Method |
DTF | Fabric (cotton, poly, blends) | DTF Printer, oven, heat press | DTF inks, PET film, hot melt powder | Heat press transfer |
UV | Rigid substrates (acrylic, wood, metal) | UV Flatbed Printer | UV inks, substrate | Direct print, instant UV cure |
UV DTF | Hard surfaces (glass, metal, wood, plastic) | UV inks, A film, B film | Peel & stick transfer (no heat press) |
Key differences
✔ DTF is for garment printing with hot melt adhesive powder and heat pressing.
✔ UV is for direct printing onto rigid items with UV light curing.
✔ UV DTF creates stickers/decals for application onto almost any hard surface without needing direct UV exposure on the object.
